I really enjoyed this suspenseful romance by Mary Burton. It can easily be read as a stand alone book. I really enjoyed both Jo and Brody's characters and thought the author did a great job of showing us the complex feelings and awkwardness between them when they first meet up again after 14 years. The romance was definitely secondary to the suspense but still played a strong roll in the book and I liked that Brody took full ownership of the fact that he was a jerk to Jo when they were married as young adults. Jo was a strong, smart female who didn't instantly fall back into a romantic relationship with Brody even though they were still very attracted to each other. I liked that Brody had to earn her trust and prove that she could depend on him. As far as the suspense storyline went - I thought that was done very well. The author gave us just enough clues/suspects to have a good idea of who the killer was without making it obvious. I love a good serial killer susp ense book and a second chance romance so putting the two of them together made this a fantastic book. I look forward to Book 3 in the series. I found Burton's characters to be wooden and the plot unoriginal and unbelievable. The glowing reviews confound me.For example, the dialogue between the sisters is unrealistic. ****Spoiler Alert*** Ellie (sister of Jo, the main character) goes out with Jo's stalker on a date. The stalker is thought to be a sociopath who killed his wife. Jo sends her a text to warn her he's bad news while she's out with him. When the sisters meet the next day Ellie tells Jo to mind her own business. Jo lets it drop. Because you wouldn't be at all worried, right? Seriously? You wouldn't mention his stalking and possible murderous tendencies? Really?Burton didn't manage to get me to connect to the victims. In other novels I've had a strong emotional reaction to horrific scenes similar to those in the book. Although I squirmed at the manner in which the victims died in No Escape,' the writing didn't prompt much more reaction. The whole novel felt forced and formulaic and I guessed the protagonist as soo n as he was introduced. One reviewer described this book as a roller coaster ride. Hmmm... Can't see it. Not when it's obvious from the beginning how the book will end. ***BIG spoiler*** Heroine needs ex-lover to rescue her from evil serial killer. In the end the lovers get together, the serial killer is foiled within seconds of killing our heroine. No Escape (Texas Rangers Book 2) PDFNo Escape (Texas Rangers Book 2) Epub
